What you need:
- Blocks
- Cardstock
- Scissors
- Storage container
What you do:
- Print cards on cardstock
- Cut them out
- Find the shapes on cards that match blocks that you have and put away the other cards. You will have some cards that won't be used and some block shapes that won't be used because they don't have matches.
- Get a box or basket to store card set with matching blocks on a low shelf.
This game helps children recognize that shapes have a different number of sides by having them match the blocks to the picture. Having a young child able to match up octogons, pentagons, parallelograms, and hexagons will make geometry easier and more fun for them in the future. Say the names of these shapes often so the child can learn to say the names correctly.
