Sensory Wet and dry sand lesson Montessori Style

This lesson is a sensory experience between wet and dry sand.
What you need:

  1. 2 containers
  2. one bag of sand
  3. molds, cups, sifter

 What you do:

  • Let child play in both wet and dry sand to feel textures
  • Add manipulitives such as molds, cups, and sifters
  • Give them freedom

To add water to the sand, you can do it yourself, but to do it the Montessrori way, let the child prepare their own experience, which they often enjoy. You can have them collect water and carefully carry it to the sand. Being able to turn the spicket to the right water pressure and carrying the container of water are both admirable skills of a toddler.

The goal of this is sensory experience. If they make perfect a mold from the sand that can be commendable. We just want them to have fun. Pouring sand on the ground and stepping on it, moving it from bucket to bucket, and feeling it with their hands are all part of the experience.
